Recently, the world trade pattern has encountered a storm. At 1:01 PM Beijing time on a certain day, the Trump administration made a highly provocative move, officially imposing a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico, while simultaneously implementing an additional 10% tariff on China. This series of tariff measures instantly ignited the fuse of a global trade war. In the face of America's trade bullying, Canada, China, and Mexico quickly and firmly launched a counterattack.
The Chinese government announcedan additional 10% and 15% tariff on some imported goods from the U.S., including chicken, corn, soybeans, etc.
On March 4, news reported that the Tariff Commission of the State Council announced that on March 3, 2025, the U.S. government announced an additional 10% tariff on all Chinese goods exported to the U.S. under the pretext of fentanyl. The unilateral tariff increase by the U.S. undermines the multilateral trade system, exacerbates the burden on American businesses and consumers, and damages the foundation of economic and trade cooperation between China and the U.S. With the approval of the State Council, starting from March 10, 2025, an additional tariff will be imposed on certain imported goods originating from the U.S. The relevant matters are as follows:
1. A 15% tariff will be imposed on chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton.
2. A 10% tariff will be imposed on sorghum, soybeans, pork, beef, seafood, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.
3. For the imported goods listed in the attachments originating from the U.S., an additional corresponding tariff will be imposed on the basis of the current applicable tariff rates, and the existing bonded and tax exemption policies will remain unchanged. The additional tariffs imposed this time will not be exempted.
4. Goods that have been shipped from the place of origin before March 10, 2025, and imported between March 10, 2025, and April 12, 2025, will not be subject to the additional tariffs specified in this announcement.

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau also decisively stated on Monday evening that once the U.S. tariffs take effect, Canada will impose a 25% tariff on U.S. goods in retaliation. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also indicated that Mexico has a response plan, and the country is united. The strong response from the three countries has put the U.S. in a situation of being 'attacked by a group'.

Mexican President Sheinbaum stated that in response to the U.S. government's tariff measures, she has instructed the Mexican Ministry of Economy to take tariff and non-tariff measures to counteract and defend Mexico's interests.
Canada has chosen to 'fight fire with fire.' Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau announced a 25% tariff on U.S. products worth 155 billion Canadian dollars to respond to the U.S. tariffs on Canadian products.
A turning point appeared on February 3. Trump said he had a 'very friendly conversation' with Sheinbaum and announced a 30-day delay in the implementation of the tariff measures between the two countries, continuing negotiations.
The Mexican side agreed to immediately send 10,000 soldiers to the Mexico-U.S. border, who will be specifically responsible for preventing fentanyl and illegal immigrants from entering the U.S.
Trump also said that Canada has agreed to ensure the security of the U.S. northern border and ultimately end the large influx of deadly drugs like fentanyl into the U.S. He expressed that he was 'very satisfied' with the preliminary results reached by both sides.

The actions of the Trump administration fully expose its arrogant mentality. They seem to view the U.S. as the ruler of the world, believing that almost all countries are 'taking advantage of the U.S.' However, from the economic data, the U.S. had a per capita GDP of $82,800 in 2023, far exceeding Canada's $53,400, the EU's $41,400, and Japan's $33,800, and even several times that of China and Mexico's per capita GDP. Even so, the economic strength of the U.S. is not unassailable.
Although the U.S. controls some core technologies in semiconductors and occupies an important position in the information industry, the Trump team has clearly overestimated the overall strength of the U.S. economy. Apart from semiconductors and the military industry, the U.S. economy performs mediocrely in other fields. For a long time, the U.S. has relied on its dominant position in the world economic system, especially the advantage of the dollar as an international currency, to continuously reap global benefits, achieving a level of wealth that does not match its actual economic situation.
Today, the greed of the Trump team is increasingly inflated, attempting to further squeeze countries around the world and engage in extreme plunder of the international system. But they do not realize that this behavior is undermining the international system that is most beneficial to the U.S. Countries around the world will not sit idly by and will inevitably respond strongly to the U.S. hegemonic actions in various ways and means.

The trade policy of the Trump administration has serious logical errors. On one hand, they want to achieve a trade surplus for the U.S.; on the other hand, they want to maintain the dollar's global hegemony. But they overlook a basic economic law: the long-term trade deficit of the U.S. has caused the increased dollars to flow globally, becoming the trade currency among other countries. Once the U.S. turns into a trade surplus country, the external dollars will flow back to the U.S. in large quantities, and the status and role of the dollar as an international currency will inevitably be weakened. The Trump team's idea of wanting to have both fish and bear's paw will ultimately be nothing but a fantasy.
The trade conflict between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico has already erupted, and Europe is also about to face the threat of U.S. tariffs. Trump's announcement of reciprocal tariffs means that the vast majority of U.S. allies and developing countries will become targets of his trade strikes. History has proven that a country attempting to be against the whole world will ultimately not have a good ending. The Trump team has clearly underestimated the strength and determination of countries around the world to fight back, and the U.S. will inevitably face collective resistance in this trade war.
In this trade war, China has always maintained a firm stance, refusing to accept any form of pressure and threats. China will work with countries around the world to jointly respond to America's trade bullying and uphold a fair, just, and reasonable international trade order. The U.S. hegemonic dream will ultimately be shattered under the joint struggle of countries around the world.
The smoke of the trade war has already spread, and where the future world trade pattern will head is worth our continued attention. But it is certain that any attempt to undermine the global trade order will face historical judgment.
