According to Chinese Taiwan media reports, a serious bridge crane collapse occurred at the west bank wharf of Keelung Port at about 14:00 today (14th).

According to preliminary information, at that time, under the guidance of the pilot, the cargo ship involved entered the port at 2:07 this afternoon. In the process, the new bridge crane transported on the freighter accidentally hit an old bridge crane on the shore of West Pier 20, causing the old bridge crane to collapse. At present, no casualties have been reported, but the detailed cause of the accident still needs further investigation.

According to the Port Authority's preliminary findings, the ship was traveling at 1.9 knots before the accident and did not trigger a speeding warning. The accident not only caused a huge noise at the scene, but also caused some containers to be crushed and the crane suffered serious damage. According to preliminary estimates by relevant personnel, the economic losses that may be caused by the accident are as high as hundreds of millions of yuan, and the new crane alone is as high as NT $0.3 billion (this RMB 60 million).

The Keelung branch of the port company said that the ships originally planned to berth at docks 20 and 21 west of Keelung port had been rearranged to dock 19 west or empty dock to operate in the form of a dock support agreement.

According to the video provided by netizens, it can be seen that the impact is not obvious. Fortunately, the direction of crane dumping is not the main concentration area of containers, and no large number of containers are damaged.
