Ro-ro cargo

In a broad sense, roll on/roll off transportation is based on the identification point of the loading and unloading method of goods, and the related transportation method is called roll on/roll off transportation. Therefore, various transportation methods in modern transportation, such as road transportation, railway transportation, air transportation, and waterway transportation, all belong to the category of roll on/roll off transportation as long as they are used for cargo loading and unloading operations. In a narrow sense, ro ro transport in industry practice can be defined as: mainly water transport mode based on Roll-on/roll-off transport.
The National Science and Technology Terminology Approval Committee interprets roll on and roll off transportation (RORO or ro ro) as a transportation method of transporting goods by using a container loaded truck, a wheeled pallet containing goods, or various motor vehicles as freight units and towing them into the cargo hold of a ship.
The "Rules for Ro/Ro Carriage of Waterway Goods" issued by China's transportation authorities define Ro/Ro carriage of water goods as a transportation unit consisting of a motor vehicle or mobile machinery, whether or not carrying passengers or goods, driven directly onto or off the ship by the shipper or its employees.
From the analysis of various definitions and explanations above, it can be seen that roll on/roll off transportation generally includes three types of elements: the object of roll on/roll off transportation: roll on/roll on cargo (RORO Cargo); Transportation means for ro ro transportation: ro ro ship; The node for loading and unloading goods in roll on/roll off transportation: RORO Terminal. Commercial vehicles, including passenger cars and commercial vehicles, are the main types of goods in roll on/roll off transportation. In addition, roll on/roll off goods also include agricultural machinery, construction machinery, and unpowered equipment. With the progress of science and technology and the development of shipbuilding industry, the ships transporting ro ro cargo are becoming more and more specialized and large-scale, and there are more and more types of ro ro ships. In addition to the traditional cruise ferries, cargo ships and barges, there are various types of ro/ro ships, such as pure car carrier (PCC); pure car/truck carrier (PCTC), passenger roll on/roll off passenger (ROPAX), container and Roll-on/roll-off (CONRO), ro Il on lift off ship (ROLO), etc. Under the background of diversified development of ro/ro goods and ro/ro ships, efficient and professional ro/ro terminals came into being. In addition to the facilities for receiving passengers at the Ro/Ro terminals, specialized cargo transportation Ro/Ro terminals also have unique terminal facilities and storage yards depending on the transportation objects. The Ro/Ro terminal yard can store goods such as cars, containers, and machinery.
